If social services are involved with your family, or the local authority has started court proceedings about your children, get a solicitor before your next meeting rather than after it. Parents with parental responsibility get legal aid for care proceedings regardless of income or savings. Describe your situation and Super Solicitor will match you with an SRA-regulated solicitor who does this work.
Firms that have verified their listing with us come first. To see which firms fit your problem, describe it in the search box.

If you are a parent with parental responsibility and the local authority has applied for a care or supervision order, legal aid is automatic and not means tested. You will not be asked about your income or savings. This is one of the few areas of law where that is the case.
It is a formal meeting where the local authority sets out its concerns and what has to change before it applies to court. It is a serious step and legal aid is available for it. Do not go alone, and do not treat it as an informal chat, because what is said feeds directly into any later application.
The law sets a target of 26 weeks, though complex cases can run longer where further assessments are needed. That is a short time to demonstrate change, which is why getting advice at the earliest stage matters more here than almost anywhere else.
Often, yes. Many cases end with children staying at home under a plan, or living with a relative rather than with foster carers. The court has to be satisfied that the threshold for an order is met and that making one is better for the child than not making one. A solicitor can put your case properly and suggest alternatives to removal.
