2,490 SRA-regulated firms in England and Wales list housing work, including firms in 32 of the 32 towns and cities we cover. Describe your problem and we will match you with the ones that handle it.
Firm data from the Solicitors Regulation Authority register, last checked 14 October 2026.
Problems with your landlord, a possession notice, disrepair the landlord will not fix, or a deposit you cannot get back. Housing law changed significantly on 1 May 2026, when section 21 no-fault evictions were abolished and every tenancy became a periodic assured tenancy. Super Solicitor can match you with an SRA-regulated housing solicitor once you've described the problem. Housing is one of the areas where legal aid is still available, so check whether you qualify before assuming you cannot afford advice.

No. Section 21 was abolished in England on 1 May 2026. A landlord now has to prove a specific legal ground under section 8, such as serious rent arrears or an intention to sell, and the court has to agree. A small number of claims begun before 31 July 2026 on older notices are still working through the courts under the previous rules.
Your landlord has a legal duty to keep the property fit to live in. Start by reporting it in writing and keeping copies, then involve the council's environmental health team. If nothing changes, a disrepair claim can force the repairs and compensate you for the time you have lived with the problem. Photographs, dates and any medical evidence all help.
Often, yes. Legal aid remains available for cases involving the loss of your home, serious disrepair affecting health, and homelessness. It is means tested and the rules are detailed, so ask a housing solicitor to check rather than ruling yourself out.
It matters a great deal. A deposit must be protected in a government-approved scheme within 30 days and you must be given the prescribed information. If that did not happen you may be entitled to compensation of between one and three times the deposit, and it can also affect a landlord's ability to recover possession.
